South Point Utilities provides water and wastewater service to the Village of South Point and
surrounding area. We currently have over 4,600 sewer customers in the South Point, Sheridan,
Burlington and Solida Road areas and over 2,100 water customers.
Water - Our water source comes from 6 wells that draw from the Teays Valley Aquifer about 70 feet
deep. The water is pumped through sand filters after potassium permanganate is added to remove
iron and manganese and then chlorine is added for disinfection. We can pump and process over
1,200 gallons of water per minute and store one million gallons. For more information on the water,
click on the Consumer Confidence Report.
Sewer - Our sewer plant currently processes about 1.2 gallons of wastewater each day. We
recently upgraded our plant from 1.2 to 1.8 million gallons per day. The improvements included
replacing the mechanical bar screen, upgrade the influent lift station, upgrade the present 0.5 meter
sludge filter press, add two 45' diameter primary and secondary clarifiers and upgraded the plant
control building. The project cost was over 1.4 million dollars and was completed Feb. 2009.
Tap Rates - New water taps are $1,000 plus any boring charges and additional curb box taps are
$75.00 (Ordinance 16-04).
New sewer taps are $1,750 per lot plus $5.00 inspection fee (Ordinance 16-05).
Water/Wastewater User Agreement - Resolution 05-2 passed March 1, 2005 requires the
agreement be signed by the property owner before SPU can transfer an account or create a new
account for a customer. The resolution also requires an Account Vacancy Agreement be signed
before putting an account on the inactive list.
