About South Point

We are proud to call South Point, Ohio home—because there is nowhere else quite like it. Our village sits at Ohio’s southernmost tip, where the land meets the Ohio River and the state quite literally comes to a point. That geographic distinction has shaped who we are since the very beginning: a river community, a crossroads, and a place where history and everyday life still feel closely connected.

Our story goes back to the late 1700s, when this area was first settled by Revolutionary War veterans and pioneers drawn to the river. South Point grew from those early roots into an incorporated village in the late 19th century, and the river has remained central to our identity ever since. Generations have worked, traveled, and gathered along its banks, and today it still offers a sense of continuity—connecting our past to the present in a way few places can.

Life here balances small-town character with regional connection. We’re part of the Tri-State area, which gives us access to nearby cities while keeping our own pace and personality. Our parks and riverfront spaces invite residents and visitors alike to slow down, enjoy the view, and appreciate the working river that continues to define our landscape. Whether you’re stopping through or settling in, South Point feels grounded, familiar, and welcoming.

Community service is something we take seriously. Our police and fire departments are locally based and deeply connected to the people they serve, helping keep South Point safe while remaining part of the fabric of daily life. Our fire department reflects the volunteer spirit that has long sustained small towns like ours, and our police department provides professional, community-focused service that residents know and trust.

We also maintain our own municipal utilities, including water and wastewater services, which allows us to stay responsive to local needs and accountable to our residents. That hands-on approach extends to everything from infrastructure to public safety—it’s part of how we look out for one another.

South Point is more than a dot on the map or a historic footnote. It’s a living community shaped by the river, strengthened by shared responsibility, and proud of where it stands—at the southern point of Ohio, and firmly rooted in its sense of home.
